Editorial 

Welcome to our first issue of Marketing and Sales, The Magazine,  a dream come true! We are moving from a weekly blog post to a full online marketing magazine published on a monthly basis.

To open our first issue, the cover story is: Is Marketing Knocked Out by AI? In the last two years I have heard in different places: "We don't need marketers," "Marketers are obsolete," "Marketing is dead because of AI." But is that true? Check it out, and I want to hear your opinion about it.

We also have specific sections. We are going to have a dedicated article for students. So, marketing and sales students: this month I had the opportunity to attend an executive seminar from the American Marketing Association at Tampa Bay. At the end of the event I approached the speakers and interviewed them, asking them one question: if you could give one single piece of advice to a marketing student who is graduating this year, what would it be? In that article you are going to hear seven great pieces of advice from Chief Marketing Officers. If you are a student, please check it out.

Another section we have is an article for marketing and sales professionals. It is a collection of the ideas that caught my attention during that executive seminar from the American Marketing Association, and I called it: From Director to Director: Strategies Shared by Chief Marketing Officers. Please check it out and let me know your feedback, I want to hear from you.

We also have a specific article for academia. In this article there is a question for my colleagues and me to reflect on: in the age of AI, what should we be teaching? No answers, no solutions, and remember, this magazine is here to promote critical thinking. It is here to start the conversation: Are we really dead as a profession? What does the future look like? What is our moral and social responsibility regarding what we should be teaching in the age of AI?

We are also going to have a case study every issue, and the case for this month is the battle between OpenAI and Anthropic at the Super Bowl commercials. OpenAI, creators of ChatGPT, and Anthropic, creators of Claude. What do you think about their marketing and branding strategies? Who is winning? Who threw the best punch, or did both miss? And if you were the marketer, what would you do differently? I want to hear from you. Check it out as well.

Alright, I hope you enjoy the magazine. Again, this is our first issue, so your feedback is very important. I want to hear what you think and what other ideas you want us to bring into the conversation to keep strengthening our critical thinking. Remember, this magazine is written by humans for humans to stimulate critical thinking in the age of AI.
