IA for All

Oct 13, 2024

Hello, I am Carlos Valdez, Founder and Director of Mercadotecnia y Ventas, and this is my video audio blog from October 4th titled: AI for Everyone. The text goes as follows:

In today’s era, artificial intelligence (AI) is rapidly transforming the labor market. Many workers are worried about losing their jobs due to automation and AI, but the reality is that, instead of replacing us, AI can be a powerful tool to increase our productivity and help us adapt to new opportunities.

That is why at Mercadotecnia y Ventas we offer the course "AI for Everyone", an open-access course to help bridge the technological and generational divide in society, aiming to make a positive impact on the community. The course is designed for those who have not used AI and wish to integrate it into their daily and work activities.

Today, AI is as indispensable as internet access, email, and the use of computers with necessary software.

In this course, you will learn how to use AI practically and simply to improve your efficiency at work and take advantage of the new technologies that are changing the world. Here’s why this learning is essential.

Impact of AI on employment: A growing challenge

A recent article in Forbes highlights that in April 2024, nearly 65,000 people were laid off in the U.S., with AI being responsible for the highest number of layoffs in history. In the tech sector, more than 800 jobs were directly eliminated due to AI, the highest number recorded since May 2023 (Roeloffs, 2024). This shows how AI-driven automation is impacting entire industries, making it more important than ever to retrain and learn how to use these technologies to our advantage.

The average lifespan of skills is declining

A recent article published in Harvard Business Review titled Reskilling in the Age of AI highlights that "the average lifespan of skills is now less than five years, and in some tech fields, it is as low as two and a half years" (Tamayo et al., 2023, p. 58). This means that to remain competitive in the labor market, it is vital that we continue to learn and adapt. AI is one of those key areas that will not only dominate the future but is already shaping the present.

Human-centered AI: A productive approach

According to CNBC, 37% of business leaders claim that AI replaced workers in 2023, but many experts insist that AI will not completely eliminate jobs. Instead, it will allow humans to move towards higher-value tasks. Asana, a collaboration software company, reported that employees believe that 29% of their tasks could be replaced by AI, but they emphasize the potential of human-centered AI, which enhances skills and collaboration instead of completely replacing people (Curry, 2023).

It's not just about technical skills

Not all future skills are technical. As the authors of the Harvard article put it: "millions of workers may need complete retraining... a fundamental and deeply complex social challenge" (Tamayo et al., 2023, p. 58). In this context, it is important not only to learn about AI tools but also to develop skills that cannot be easily automated, such as creativity, critical thinking, and emotional management.

AI as an advantage, not a threat

The perception that AI will replace jobs is understandable, but what many don’t see is that AI is designed to complement our skills, allowing us to focus on more complex and creative tasks. According to a recent study by the Pew Research Center, workers in sectors with high exposure to AI, such as information and technology services, are more likely to see AI as a help rather than a threat (Pew Research, 2023). Instead of fearing AI, we must learn to harness it to become more efficient and valuable in our current roles.

Increase your productivity with AI

In our "AI for Everyone" course, you will not only learn what artificial intelligence is, but also how to use tools like ChatGPT and DALL-E to complete everyday tasks more quickly, such as generating reports, responding to emails, and creating visual content for projects. AI allows you to automate repetitive tasks, giving you more time to focus on activities that truly require your personal and strategic touch.

Conclusion:

AI is not a threat; it is an opportunity to be more productive and remain relevant in the changing labor market. My course "AI for Everyone" is designed so that anyone, regardless of their level of experience, can understand and take advantage of artificial intelligence tools effectively. Enroll today and get ready for the future!
